In its World Water Day statement, the Association for Sustainable Production and Consumption (SUT-D) highlighted that safe water and sanitation are critical elements of human rights and gender equality, calling for action to ensure everyone has access to safer water and a life where gender equality is achieved and urging that women be prioritised in water management solutions.
Marked every year since 1993 on 22 March with a theme highlighting a significant issue affecting 2.1 billion people who lack access to safe water near their homes, World Water Day saw Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) Lecturer and Chairwoman of the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D), Professor Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, called for prioritising women in water management solutions by taking action to ensure everyone has access to safer water and a life where gender equality is achieved, stating that they are making an impact through the SUT-D Water Fairies Project.

This year, on 22 March World Water Day, attention was drawn to the fact that safe water and sanitation are critical elements of human rights and gender equality within the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, as part of a campaign aimed at empowering all women and girls Professor Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoglu, a lecturer at Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) and Chairwoman of SUT-D, stated that the campaign is being carried out under the theme “Where water flows, equality grows”, noting that the global water crisis affects everyone.
